Safety Tips

  • Whenever bathing someone, check the temperature of the water to be sure it is not too hot.
  • Never try to move someone up in bed alone, especially if they weigh more than you do. It is important to keep your back healthy so you can help the other person.
  • Remember any break in the skin can lead to infection. In patients with diabetes, circulatory problems or older adults, a skin infection can become very serious.
  • When a person has a pressure ulcer, wear gloves when bathing the person to prevent touching any drainage that might carry infection.
