Here is Sue’s Story:

Sue's Story

My mother is 86 years old. Even though she has high blood pressure she has been able to get around in her own home fairly well. That all changed when she fell. A broken leg sent her to the hospital and then she had rehab for 8 weeks in a nearby nursing home. She has been back home for 2 months. My brother and I take turns helping to care for her.

When she first came home we had to be sure she was able to use her walker safely in the home. We make sure she takes her medicines as her doctor has ordered. She is on several new medicines, so about every other day I take her blood pressure to be sure everything is ok.

Caring for my mother has been both a joy and a challenge. I am so glad I can help her, but there has been a lot to learn. The SAFECARE at Home program has been a big help. My brother and I have been able to learn ways to assist my mother in using a walker and tips for how to give medicines safely. The program showed me how to take a blood pressure and what to look for so I can report useful information to my mother’s doctor. I can use the program anytime when I need it, even the middle of the night. SAFECARE at Home gives me practical information I need to care for my mother.
